Why choose a home birth?
- Research shows that for healthy low risk women, home birth with a trained midwife is a safe option.
- Feeling safe by being in your own environment supports good endorphin production.
- The fight or flight response can be reduced, which can shorten labor.
- Freedom of movement can facilitate a good labor pattern and shorter pushing stage.
- Freedom to eat and drink in labor can increase your energy and stamina.
- There are less interventions such as cervical exams and IV's.

- Its much more affordable and your receive personal, in depth care.
- Your baby is born where it will be living, and therefore not exposed to new, or outside germs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you accept insurance and payment plans?
- The initial interview is free and an excellent opportunity for us to meet and see if we are a good fit.
- A $500.00 deposit is required at the initial appointment and we can work out a payment plan for the remaining balance to be paid in full by 36 weeks. You can pay by cash, check or pay pal.
- After the birth and 2 weeks of postpartum care, I will bill your insurance. If there is any reimbursement, you will receive it a few months after birth.
What other fee's am I responsible for?
- Initial lab work, ultrasounds, the newborn metabolic screen and a birth kit are additional fee's. If other lab work or hospital visits are required they also will be your responsibility.
What about the mess?
- Its not quite as messy as everyone thinks :-)
- We protect your bedding, couches and carpets with waterproof liners and pads.
- The midwives clean up the mess, take out the trash, empty the birth tub and start a load of laundry for you before we leave the house. All while you and your family are bonding with your new addition.
What about an emergency?
- We have an emergency care plan in place, which includes knowing when and how to safely transport to the nearest hospital.
- My birth team and I are well trained for emergencies with certifications in CPR and Neonatal Resuscitation.
- I carry oxygen and antihemorrhagics to every birth. I have completed additional training in emergency skills through continuing education.
- The risks of emergencies are decreased by having a low risk, healthy pregnancy and careful monitoring in labor, birth and the immediate postpartum.
- Emergencies can happen but are not nearly as often or dramatic as television and media would have you believe. Less then 1% of newborns need extensive resuscitation, while only 10% need gentle stimulation.
How do I get a birth certificate and a social security card?
- I file all the paperwork after the birth with the State of Colorado. You will then be able to pick up the completed birth certificate at your county clerks office or order it online at CO Department of Regulatory Agencies, Vital records, order a new birth certificate. The social security card will automatically be mailed to you.
